About Us

C/K Parrot Club Mandate:

- to educate parrot owners about caring properly for their feathered companions
- to educate the general public about the pros and cons of parrot ownership, thereby avoiding re-homed parrots
- to support avian research, care facilities and conservation in the wild through education and fundraising.

Policy on Rescues

It is the opinion of the Chatham Kent Parrot Club that the best situation for all companion parrots is to live permanently in a loving home. Through education we believe this is possible. If everyone considering adding a parrot to their family took the time to make an informed choice there would not be as many parrots needing rescue. We encourage anyone who seeks out the Chatham Kent Parrot Club to research the type of parrot that they are considering and analyze their lifestyle to see how this type of parrot fits in.

At this time we are considering a program in which we will be working closely with pet stores and breeders, asking them to refer their customers to us. This is one of the ways we hope to help people to make an informed choice.

Unfortunately there will always be a need for parrot rescue services. We encourage anyone seeking these services to check them out carefully to ensure that they meet the needs of the bird and the owner. Keep in mind you want the bird to end up in another loving home. At present the Chatham Kent Parrot Club does not endorse one service over another.
